In life, many of the challenges we face are simply distractions from the enemy to keep us from pursuing our destiny. Maybe someone in the office isn’t as friendly to you as you’d like. Maybe you have a neighbor who always parks in front of your house and blocks your mailbox. Those things may be frustrating, but they have little significance when you look at the big picture of eternity. You can’t allow the little things to cause strife in your life.

In scripture, just before David fought the giant Goliath, his brother Iliab tried to confront him. But David knew that arguing with Iliab wasn’t even worth his time and strength. He knew his real battle was with Goliath, and he didn’t want to be distracted. He simply “turned away” from Iliab and kept his focus on what he was called to do.

Let’s follow the example of David and keep our eyes on what’s most important in life. Instead of being led away by frustrations, let’s focus on the big picture. Know when to turn away from strife and receive the mark of honor the Lord has for you!

WHAT AN IDEA..GET THE SON, GET ALL

A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything in their collection, from Picasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art.

When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son.

About a month later, just before Christmas, there was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands.

He said, 'Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly. He often talked about you, and your love for art.' The young man held out this package. 'I know this isn't much. I'm not really a great artist, but I think your son would have wanted you to have this.'

The father opened the package. It was a portrait of his son, painted by the young man. He stared in awe at the way the soldier had captured the personality of his son in the painting. The father was so drawn to the eyes that his own eyes welled up with tears. He thanked the young man and offered to pay him for the picture. 'Oh, no sir, I could never repay what your son did for me. It's a gift.'

The father hung the portrait over his mantle. Every time visitors came to his home he took them to see the portrait of his son before he showed them any of the other great works he had collected.

The man died a few months later. There was to be a great auction of his paintings Many influential people gathered, excited over seeing the great paintings and having an opportunity to purchase one for their collection.

On the platform sat the painting of the son The auctioneer pounded his gavel. 'We will start the bidding with this picture of the son. Who will bid for this picture?'

There was silence.

Then a voice in the back of the room shouted, 'We want to see the famous paintings. Skip this one.'

But the auctioneer persisted. 'Will somebody bid for this painting. Who will start the bidding? $100, $200?'

Another voice angrily. 'We didn't come to see this painting. We came to see the Van Gogh's, the Rembrandt's. Get on with the real bids!'

But still the auctioneer continued. 'The son! The son! Who'll take the son?'

Finally, a voice came from the very back of the room. It was the longtime gardener of the man and his son. 'I'll give $10 for the painting.' Being a poor man, it was all he could afford.

'We have $10, who will bid $20?'

'Give it to him for $10. Let's see the masters.'

'$10 is the bid, won't someone bid $20?'

The crowd was becoming angry. They didn't want the picture of the son.

They wanted the more worthy investments for their collections.

The auctioneer pounded the gavel. 'Going once, twice, SOLD for $10!'

A man sitting on the second row shouted, 'Now let's get on with the collection!'

The auctioneer laid down his gavel. 'I'm sorry, the auction is over.'

'What about the paintings?'

'I am sorry. When I was called to conduct this auction, I was told of a secret stipulation in the will. I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time. Only the painting of the son would be auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings.

The man who took the son gets everything!'

God gave His son 2,000 years ago to die on the cross. Much like the auctioneer, His message today is: 'The son, the son, who'll take the son?'

Because, you see, whoever takes the Son gets everything.

THRONE OF GRACE

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need”. Hebrews 4:16.

One of the most interesting things I have discovered about prayer is that it is far more than trying to get God to pity my condition or plight. New covenant prayer is based on legal grounds. You have been invited to the throne room where the impossible is made possible. You have to walk in boldly and present your case like a lawyer before the judge of the universe. Until we remember that God is not moved by our tears but by His word, prayer will not cease to be an exercise in futility.

“I even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for my own sake: and I will not remember your sins. Put me in remembrance; let us contend together; state your case, that you may be acquitted”. Isaiah 43:25-26. This is the backbone of prayer. This is a challenge to every one of us. Put Him in remembrance of His words; put Him in remembrance of your redemptive right. Just like a lawyer always brings law and precedents before the judge, bring His word. Do not come before him tongue tied, come with boldness. Find a scripture that covers your case and bring it before Him in prayer.

Once you can find a scripture that covers your case, that settles it. It is as good as an answer. There can be no denial because God’s integrity is at stake. He said in Jeremiah 1:12 “I watch over my word to perform it”. This actually means that none of his word can go by default. In Daniel chapter 9. Daniel called God’s attention to His promise He made through Jeremiah. He presented his case legally. You can do the same. Understand that God has tied himself up with His word. He is under obligation to answer once you come to him on the basis of His word. “By so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant”. Hebrews 7:22. Jesus is the guarantor for every word from Matthew 1:1 to revelation 22:21. It cannot fail.

THE WORD OF GOD IS A LIVING THING

“For the word of God is a living thing …” (Hebrews 4:12). Moffatt’s translation.

The Word is a living thing. You read it and it will fill you with new thoughts. The Word will begin to think in you. As you talk it, act it, or write it, it thinks through you, it enriches itself, it multiplies as Luke tells us in Acts 12:14. “The Word of God grew and multiplied.” I found that it does another thing that is mentioned in Acts 19:20. “So mightily grew the Word of the Lord and prevailed.” It prevails over physical infirmities. It prevails over our weaknesses, over doubts and fears.

As we meditate on the Word, the Word multiplies and becomes a dominant force in us. How it thrills us. How it feeds our spirits. How it enriches our vision of life. How it inspires love until all the old bitterness and hardness that has come to us by contacts with unsavoury people disappears and we stand clothed in the fullness of love victorious at every count. Halleluyah.

TOUCHING JESUS THROUGH THE WORD

You remember the story of the woman who was sick and broken and had spent her all upon the Physicians and was nothing bettered? Then she heard through someone that He was coming to her village that day. You remember the story of how she sought to reach Him but was so frail she could not? The narrative tells us that she touched the hem of His garment, and if she did, she must have pushed her way through that crowd on her hands and knees, through the dust and dirt.

Paul tells us in Hebrews: “Jesus can be touched by the feelings of our infirmities.” There isn’t a sweeter message than this: that Our Lord can be touched today. In the 20^th century translation of the story of the woman with the issue of blood, the account was rendered this way: Jesus said “someone has touched me.” And they said, “Master the multitudes press thee and crush thee.” But he said “No, someone has made a demand upon my ability.” Oh, I am so glad I can make a demand on Him for my needs today through the WORD.

THE VICTORIOUS LIFE

“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the son of God.” I Jn. 5:13

One of my greatest discoveries from the word of God is the fact that i have eternal life, the very nature of God. haven been a christian for years i did not realise that eternal life made it possible for me to be fathered by God. one can be a christian and live an ordinary life for years without knowing that he has eternal life. further more, i also discovered that eternal life made it possible for me to be made the righteousness of God. infact eternal life made it possible for me to be righteous. all i needed came in one package. righteousness gave me the same standing with the father that Jesus has. that means i can boldly come to the throne room and make my request known to the father. i know there can never be a denial because Jesus had become my righteousness.

Are you aware that eternal life gave you the rights and privileges of sonship? that it actually made you a branch of the vine? has it dawned on your spirit that as the righteousness of God you have all the advantages?This is the higher life in christ, a life of victory 24 hours a day. now i can boldly declare that He is my sufficiency. of His fullness i received all my needs lavishly. Thanks be unto God who alway leads us in Christ's triumphal procession. now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume. 2 Corinthians 2:14. Halleluyah.

SATAN, THE DEFEATED

“inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is , the devil”. Hebrews 2:14.

When it becomes clear to you as a believer that the devil had been defeated, then you will begin to take your place as a victor in the affairs of life. Hebrews 2:14 gives us the master plan of the substitutionary death that led to our deliverance.

Let's look at it from way’s translation: “He did this that He might be able to die, and by His death might annihilate the power of him who swayed the sceptre of death’s terror, that is the devil; and so might transfer into a new existence those who through the haunting dread of death were all their lifetime bowed beneath a yoke ofveritable slavery.”

All this happened before his resurrection. Jesus did not rise until the devil had been defeated. Another interesting scripture I always love to remember is Colossians 2:15 “having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it”. This gives us a clearer picture of the victory of Jesus over the devil in his own territory.

Now, you need to understand that this victory belongs to you as a believer. In the mind of God, you were actually there with Christ. “I have been crucified with Christ…” Galatians 2:20. Every one of us was nailed to that cross. It was our death. We were also buried with him. In other words, we were there when he met the adversary and conquered him. He striped him of his authority that he got from Adam and restored it back to us in the new birth. Ephesians 2:5-6 tells us that we were made alive with Christ and raised with him in the heavenly places. That is were you belong.

“He delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the son of his love” Colossians 1:13. Many believers have not yet come to the understanding of this scripture. They are still trying to be delivered from the one who has been defeated. You need to understand that as far as we are concerned, the devil is a paralytic. Satan has no authority over you any more than pharaoh had over delivered children of Israel . Begin to take you place and put him where he belongs. He has no right to put sickness on you; he has no right to make you sad. He has no right to put fear in you spirit. At the first intimation of satin’s touch, you have the authority to command his power to be broken in your life. He has been defeated.
