For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

(John 3:16)

In Genesis 2:17, God said to Adam: “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” Adam flouted this instruction and ate of the tree and thereby altered God’s original plan for man’s life. From then on, the moment any man is born into this world, he starts to die. In His plan of salvation, God sent His Son Jesus to be the Saviour of the world and to deliver man from perishing.

Understand the construction used in our opening scripture “...that whosoever believeth in him should not perish....” This is a sovereign declaration by God, letting us know that anyone who believes in Jesus isn’t numbered amongst those that would perish. If you believe in Jesus you are severed from those to perish.

To be severed here means to be set apart, separated or singled out from those that perish. This is not a promise but a law; a divine law from God that separates you from perishing. You’ve been set apart or separated from evil, peril and destruction. This divine law is hedged to everything that concerns you.

It doesn’t matter that many awful things sometimes happen to people around you; deliverance is available to you because you’re severed from destruction and the corrupting influences in the world.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for your precious Son who has saved me from perishing. I recognize your coverage over my life and all that concerns me, and I know that your love and grace have given me the advantage to live an indestructible life, irrespective of the chaotic situation that may be going on in the world today, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
