The psalmist pleads love to God's ordinances. Let us account one day in God's courts better than a thousand spent elsewhere; and deem the meanest place in his service preferable to the highest earthly preferment. We are here in darkness, but if God be our God, he will be to us a Sun, to enlighten and enliven us, to guide and direct us. We are here in danger, but he will be to us a Shield, to secure us from the fiery darts that fly thick about us. Through he has not promised to give riches and dignities, he has promised to give grace and glory to all that seek them in his appointed way. And what is grace, but heaven begun below, in the knowledge, love, and service of God? What is glory, but the completion of this happiness, in being made like to him, and in fully enjoying him for ever? Let it be our care to walk uprightly, and then let us trust God to give us every thing that is good for us. If we cannot go to the house of the Lord, we may go by faith to the Lord of the house; in him we shall be happy, and may be easy. That man is really happy, whatever his outward circumstances may be, who trusts in the Lord of hosts, the God of Jacob.

Pulpit Commentary

Verse 10. - For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand; i.e. than any number of days elsewhere. It is difficult to trace any connection between these concluding verses. They appear to consist of distinct thoughts, which arise in the writer's mind, and are jotted down as they occur to him. One is a thought of loyalty, which finds vent in a prayer for the king (ver. 9). Another is a reflection of the main thought of the psalm, the incomparable blessedness of dwelling in God's house. A third (vers. 11, 12) is the joy and glory of perpetual communion with God and trust in God. See the remarks of Professor Cheyne ('The Book of Psalms,' p. 237). I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God; literally, at the threshold; but the meaning is well expressed by the Authorized Version. "Doorkeepers in the house of their God" was exactly what the Korahite Levites were (1 Chronicles 9:19; 1 Chronicles 26:1, 12-19). Than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. As their ancestor, Korah, had done (Numbers 16:26).

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible

For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand,.... "One day"; so the Septuagint and Vulgate Latin, and all the Oriental versions; and so the Targum, Jarchi, and Kimchi, interpret it; one day in the house of God, in the world to come, so Arama: though rather reference is had to the seventh day sabbath, then in being; and which with the psalmist was a delight, holy and honourable; and though now abolished, as to the time of it, with the rest of the ceremonial law, there is yet a day of public worship, called the Lord's day, and the day of the Son of man; and one of these days spent in the courts of the Lord, in an attendance on the word and ordinances, in worshipping in the fear of God, in spirit and in truth; in divine service, assisted by the Spirit of God, doing everything in faith, from love, and with a view to the glory of God; a day thus spent in religious exercises "is better than a thousand"; that is, than a thousand days; not than a thousand days spent in like manner, but than a thousand other days, common day, of the week; or than a thousand in other places, especially in places of sin, and in the company of wicked men; one day in God's house employed in spiritual exercises, and enjoying communion with him, is better than a thousand days in any of the houses of Satan, of sinful pleasure, or in the houses of sinful men; better as to peace of mind, solid pleasure, real profit, and true honour:

I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God; in the meanest post and place there; alluding to the Levites, who were some of them porters, and kept the doors of the Lord's house, 1 Chronicles 26:1 or to the beggars that lay at the gates of the temple for alms; see Acts 3:1 or to be fixed to the door post of it, alluding to the servant that was desirous of continuing in his master's house, and serving him for ever; who was brought to the door post, and had his ears bored through with an awl, Exodus 21:5. Such a willing servant was the psalmist; and this sense the Targum seems to incline to, which renders it,

"I have chose to cleave to the house of the sanctuary of God;''

or to be a waiter there, to watch daily at Wisdom's gates, and to wait at the posts of her doors; such lie in the way of conversion, and of finding Christ; in the way of spiritual healing, as the man at the pool; and of spiritual instruction, and of spiritual strength, and an increase of it: or to be, or sit, upon the threshold; or to be "thresholding" of it; that is, to frequent the house of God, to be often going over the threshold of it; this the psalmist took delight to do, even to be the threshold (k) itself, for men to tread upon as they go into the house of God:

than to dwell in the tents of wickedness; meaning not houses built by wicked men, or with money ill got; but where wicked men dwelt, and who were so bad as to be called wickedness itself; perhaps the psalmist might have in his mind the tents of Kedar, where he had sometimes been; see Psalm 120:5, now to live in the meanest place in the house of God, to wait at the door as a porter, to lie there as a beggar, to sit upon the threshold, and much more to go often over it, or be that itself, was abundantly preferable than to dwell "an age" (l) in the house of princes and great men, being wicked; than to live in the most pompous manner, at ease and in plenty, enjoying all the good things of life that heart can wish for; one hour's communion with God in his house is better than all this, and that for the reason following.

"esse in limine", Pagninus, Montanus; "ad limen esse", Musculus; "desidere ad limen", Tigurine version, Vatablus, so Ainsworth; "frequentare limen", Junius & Tremellius; "commorari limen", Piscator; "ad limen stare", Gejerus, Michaelis.
Don’t Vacillate!

When you look at the past months in retrospect, can you convincingly say you did everything God told you to do at the beginning of the year? Whatever your answer might be, I want you to know that God loves you and He desires for you to make much more progress than you’ve had since the year began. He may have already started showing you the changes He wants you to make and the things He wants you to do in order to reach the place of your dreams by the end of the year. Therefore you must be prepared to follow through with the decisions you made because the adversary seeks to stop you from reaching the place of your dreams.

The major issue with many people is inconsistency. They easily change with the tides. It’s a good thing to have good plans; it’s great to make Word-based decisions, but it is another thing to follow through with them. Those who don’t follow through with the right decisions, are as unwise as those who didn’t even make any decisions at all. You don’t get the results just because you made decisions, the results come when you have followed through with them.

Make a quality decision to follow through on everything God has told you. The Word never changes; it will produce the result of what it says. Live a consistent life in the Word of God because that’s the way to always remain victorious in Christ.

I had monies set aside for some things in my bag but I was led to give all the money I had set aside because before the convention my pastor said to us ' it is a faith convention so start acting your faith' and on the first day of the convention Pastor Ambrose while ministrying said that as new creations, we are acting a role and we are not responsible for providing what is required for the part we are acting. those words came to me and I gave the money I had set aside expecting a miracle and knowing I cannot lack. the very next day -monday I received more than I gave on sunday and i received the miracle i was expecting. my expectations were not cut short.

i needed a laptop and also on monday i received a lap top as a gift.

it has been our desire to upgrade our department in church (decoration department) we also desired to start doing jobs in line with our service in the house of God on wednesday our department in church got a contract job.

more importantly my fellowship with the Holy Spirit is deeper.now i always know what to do when to do it how to do it by The Spirit.GLOOOORY

today is thursday and I am expectant, another testimony is on my way because the path of the righteous is like a shining light, which shines brighter and brighter onto a perfect day. today has to be better than yesterday and tomorrow better than today. my life is from glory to glory.its a higher level for me.

WE ALL HAVE TESTIMONIES-PLEASE SHARE YOURS. PASTOR SAYS AS YOU DO YOU RECEIVE BIGGER TESTIMONIES. SO START TESTIFYING TO THE GLORY OF GOD.

23RD MAY 2013: ITS A BEAUTIFUL LIFE

If a bowl of salad full of veggies is the only thing that pops in your mind when someone talks about high fibre food, feed your brain with numerous other options.

Fibre constitutes a very important part of our diet. But why does something which doesn’t even get absorbed into our bloodstream still hold a respectable place as a food essential in our regular and balanced diet? At the very basic level fibre is roughage that helps in binding and moving food ahead in the digestive tract and its presence in our diet ensures regularity of bowel.

But the other benefits of fibre consumption range from controlling overeating and fat absorption in the body to reducing cholesterol and chances of cancer. It also neutralizes blood sugar levels.

Top 10 High Fibre Foods

Pear: This fruit with edible skin is packed with fibre. A medium sized pear when consumed with the skin contains approximately five grams of fibre. Delicious to eat and easy to carry, a pear is a great option to curb that 4 pm hunger pang, while you are still at work.

Raspberries: Packed with fibre and bursting with that fruity flavour, raspberries appears on the list of yummy fibre options. One cupful of these superstars contains eight grams of fibre. To add to their goodness, these little beauties are powerful antioxidants as well.

Pistachio: A handful of “nut-ritious” pistachio are ideal for snacking as they are high in fibre and protein and low in fat. Toss a few in your regular salad or have them just like that. Try to avoid the salted version though.

Corn: Corn is an excellent fibre source which is low in calories. Popcorn (of course without butter or caramel) while watching a movie, boiled sweet corn with chat masala and lemon, or baby corn in your salad, all works perfectly well in meeting your daily fibre requirement – deliciously!

Apple: An apple a day does keep the doctor away and also helps you to make regular visits to the loo by triggering off bowel movement.

Brown rice: Did you know that brown version of rice is way healthier than its polished white counterpart. One cooked cup contains 3.5 grams of fibre.

Green peas: Those little sweet green peas are loved by everyone and that’s why it is a great idea to have more and more of them, every now and then. Fresh or dried, cooked or frozen, include them all the time in your salads, soups and pulaos.

Beans: Nothing too exotic but our very own rajma (kidney beans) is also an ideal fibre rich food. There are several other varieties of beans available like lima beans, navy beans, lentils, mung beans, french beans and pinto beans to choose from, depending upon the availability.

Broccoli: The look-alike of our very own cauliflower, broccoli is a rich source of dietary fibre. The best part is, once washed thoroughly; it can be eaten raw in a salad or can be cooked as well.

Wholegrains: Barley, corn, wheat, millet, oats, brown rice, and many others come under the category of whole grains, which means the grain has its husk, barn and endosperm intact. Whole grains are rich in fibre and high in complex carbohydrates, making it a healthy staple

God bless you

Don’t Stop At The Prophecy!

Pastor Chris

Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith (Romans 12:6). Sometimes, some Christians wonder how come they prophesied that something was going to happen and it didn’t happen, and then they concluded that maybe it was a false prophecy after all. Not necessarily. Let’s learn from the Prophet Elijah: there had been no rain for three and a half years, then suddenly he prophesied to King Ahab “…get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain” (1 Kings 18:41). After giving the word of prophecy, the Bible didn’t tell us that immediately, the rains started pouring down. Rather we read in the next verse what Elijah did; “he went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees” (1 Kings 18:42). He went to pray. Elijah followed up his prophecy with prayer. He didn’t idle away, waiting for the abundance of rain, despite having prophesied by the Spirit that God would send rain. After praying for a while, he said to his servant, “…Go up now and look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, there is nothing, and he said, Go again seven times” (1Kings 18:43-44). This had to have gone on for several hours if not days. Each time Elijah’s servant went out to check if there was rain and came back, he met Elijah still praying. By the seventh time, the Bible says, “…it came to pass in the meanwhile, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain” (1 Kings 18:45). Elijah didn’t stop at the prophecy, and this is what a lot of Christians haven’t learnt to do. They make the mistake of stopping at the prophecy, and when “the rains” as it were, don’t come, they wonder why. It’s because you stopped at the prophecy; you didn’t follow up the prophecy with prayer. Get smart and get praying; and you’ll see those prophecies come to pass in your life. Hallelujah!
